Cross Country 10/20/09
Freshmen State Championship

The runners in this race were very lucky to have such a beautiful sunny day to get out and run. The freshmen states were held at Goddard Park on the 2.5 mile course. Representing Fatima was Megan Delamer, the girls varsity leading runner. Megan got out to a fast start in the race and unfortunately twisted her ankle less than a mile into the race. However, that did not stop the fierce determination that Megan posses. Megan was able to cruise through the course finishing in the middle of the pack of nearly 140 runners. Not only did Megan place well, but she also ran an excellent time of 19:40. This time was over a minute and a half faster than when she ran the same course back in September at the injury fund. This race showed how Megan has improved throughout the course of the season and how she will continue to improve right up to the Class Championship race on October 31st at Ponaganset.

Boys & Girls Cross Country 10/5/09
Fatima VS LaSalle, Moses Brown, Tolman, Shea @ Roger Williams Park

The boys cross-country team had their best race of the year. The team scored the most amount of points it has all year and was only 2 points away from victory. The guys really stepped up and ran strong as a group. Dominic Pirri led the attack for Fatima finishing only 10 seconds away from yet another personal best time. Right behind Dominic was Marc Rabideau, Andrew Jones, and Nick Jean-Gilles. Marc and Nick finished very strong both setting new personal records for the 3.1 miles. Devin Silva was Fatima˙s 5th man and without his strong finish, also leading to a season best time, the team would not have come so close to victory. Without the complete team at the race due to illness, Bryce Capracotta stepped up for the team and also had a personal best time this season.

For the girls cross-country team Victoria Harris had an excellent day. Megan Delamer pulled up half way through the race with a bad cramp; Victoria seeing this happen during the race showed great team leadership and stepped up to lead the charge for the lady tigers finishing first for the team. Megan, the tough runner she is, battled through the cramp not letting it stop her from finishing and still had a great race. I was very proud of the determination that was shown today by all the runners.

From here we look forward to our next meet. We will continue working hard for the next couple weeks, and then begin to taper down before the class championship race at the end of the month.

Boys and Girls Cross Country 10/15/09
Fatima VS Bishop Connolly
@ Bishop Connolly

This race was a non-league dual meet that we had set up to get the team an extra meet before the championship races begin. The weather did not cooperate with us today and the athletes were faced with just more than the challenge of running the 2.65 mile course. With the wind and rain constant throughout the race, both the boys and girls did very well considering how cold it was.

The boys started us off on the right foot with Dominic Pirri leading the way. The runners did very well not only as individuals, but they did very well as a team. Dominic was able to capture third place with Marc Rabideau right behind in fourth. Marc showed great determination in the race coming from fifth place and laying down a powerful kick with a quarter of a mile to go to capture fourth. From there Fatima was able to grab places 8-11. Nick Jean-Gilles was Fatimas third runner finishing in eighth place. The next three runners who ran close in a tight pack were Jamie Nunes, Devin Silva, and Alex Melfi. Overall each runner showed a great effort for a tough day of running.

The girls had an amazing race. By far this was their best performance not only individually but as a team as well. Megan Delamer led the entire race with Victoria Harris only seconds behind her giving Fatima positions 1 and 2. This was Megans first win of the year and a well-fought victory. Despite the nasty weather conditions, Megan was still able to run 19:28 to gain the win. Teresa Harris and Ashley DeAngelis stepped up and ran very well coming in with strong finishes to gain spots seven and eight for the team. The great effort shown by the Fatima Lady Tigers was good enough to tie them for 1st place in the meet overall. Hats off to a job well done ladies, keep up the good work.

Volleyball 10/15/09
Fatima VS Central High School

FATIMA WINS!

Megan Silva had 21 service points for the tigers while Justine Lavoie had 25 assists for the team. The girls worked together setting the ball up in order to have 30 attacks as a team. They played great defense through the entire game. The last time we played Central we did not come up with the win due to the absence of the team setter Justine Lavoie. With her back in the line up we came up with the win easily. Once again Leslie Pavao came off the bench and was able to score 3 service points and had 2 attacks. She is no doubt a great addition to the team and will be a great player next year for Fatima. We did have some trouble with service errors, having 13 errors during this game. We need to work on eliminating these errors as we head to the end of the season and playoffs.

Volleyball 9/30/09
Fatima VS Hope High School

FATIMA WINS!

Justine Lavoie had 49 assists, a season record for her to go along with her 15 saves. Mary Kate Sanders had 18 attacks, 10 digs and 5 ace service points. Hailey Bober had 28 service points and NO errors. The girls played extremely well as a team. All the girls contributed to the tigers won. Every player had at least 5 attacks and 11 service points. Players were on their game, and if they made a mistake they got right back into the game. Teamwork was a big reason for the tigers to come out with a win. All the players played well. Megan Silva stepped up, going to the line and making all 12 serves without an error. Serving this game was better than games in the past; however we still need to eliminate errors.

Volleyball 10/2/09
Fatima VS Middletown

Justine Lavoie had 30 assists, 7 saves and 10 service points. Hailey Bober had 7 attacks, 8 digs, and 16 service points for the tigers. Although the team lost, I think that ALL the girls played a great game. The serve was good, the hitting was good, and their defense was great. Since it was homecoming I think the team was excited and nervous. They played great and I was pleasantly surprised at the team spirit and energy. Megan Silva stepped up once again and had 6 attacks and 2 service aces. We are going to continue to work on serving and hitting to empty places on the court.

Volleyball 10/5/09
Fatima VS Central Falls

Megan Silva had 10 service points for the tigers and Hailey Bober had 11. With Mary Kate Sanders sick, Leslie Pavao had another good game with the tigers. She stepped up and played great defense for the team. Central Falls is the number one team in the division and is undefeated as of now, however, I think the team played well together and did the best they could against a tough competitor. Megan Silva did a great job for the tigers with no service errors from the line, and skipping up to play junior varsity when she was asked due to illness of the other players.

Volleyball 10/13/09
Fatima VS Middletown

Justine Lavoie had 35 assists, 5 saves, and went 10 for 10 at the service line. Meghan Colvin had a good game as well with 14 attacks and 4 saves. The tigers had a great game but could not come up with the win. They all played together. They set the ball up and every member of the team had at least 5 attacks. Kristine DaSilva stepped up and had 7 saves to go along with 10 service points for the tigers. We still need to work on service errors, attacking different places on the court, and hitting/tipping over the blockers at the net.

Athletes of the Week:

Coming Soon

Athlete of the Month:

Athlete of the Month: February

Congratulations to Nick Jean-Gilles for being named Fatima High School Athlete of the month for February.

Nick finished his senior season in extraordinary fashion. He averaged 22 points 5 rebounds and 3 assists a game over his last 6 games. Nick scored his 1,000th point in early February and finished his career with 1,170 points. Nick was honored with being placed on the 2nd team all-division team. He is a pleasure to coach and always has a smile on his face. The thing that stands out about Nick is determination to get better. Nick was always the first person in the gym and the last one to leave. He just loves playing basketball. He is always the hardest worker at practice and was a player coach on the court. Nick is someone who not only makes himself better, but also the underclassmen. He took many of the underclassmen under his wing and helped them become better basketball players, which is a big reason the boys basketball team showed much improvement over the entire season. Nick is not only a great athlete, but he is a great person.

Athlete of the Month: January

Congratulations to Victoria Harris for being named Fatima High School Athlete of the month for January.

Victoria Harris not only has been averaging 6.7 rebounds a game she is a true team captain. She gets the girls prepared before and after practices and games. She has been for a couple weeks this season and despite being injured she is at every practice and game. We have nicknamed her Coach Harris, because she has become a third coach on this young team. In the classroom she excels and is very involved in other school organizations.

Athlete of the Month: December

Congratulations to Marc Rabideau for being named Fatima High School Athlete of the month for December.

Marc Rabideau. Marc is playing his first year of organized varsity basketball. The improvement he has shown in such a short amount of time is a reflection of Marc's character. He has never missed a practice and he works extremely hard in practice and games. He has gone from being a role player to a starter who plays a significant amount of minutes and has helped set the foundation for Fatima Boy's basketball. He is an excellent role model for the underclassmen and always pushes everybody to do their best. He has a great attitude and is a good student athlete. It is truly a privilege to coach and be around him because he makes everyone better. He is a prime example of what an Our Lady of Fatima student athlete encompasses because he "expects success" everyday and does not settle for less.

Athlete of the Month: October

Congratulations to Megan Delamer for being named Fatima High School Athlete of the month for October

As a freshmen Megan came out and made an immediate impact on the
cross-country team. Megan recorded the fastest time this year for the
Fatima girl’s team. A very confident runner, her heart and determination
show each race she runs. She does not let the fact that she is only a
freshmen get in the way of running to the best of her ability. On two
occasions this season Megan broke into the top 10 of the race. Megan not
only cracked the top 10 at Bishop Connolly, but she finished in first
place. Megan led the race from the start to finish despite the miserable
cold and rainy weather. Megan is a coaches dream, she does what she is
asked and always with a smile. She wants to improve each week and does
whatever she has to, to do so. Megan’s times are no joke either, as a
freshmen girl she is beating many of the boys. Megan continued to set
personal bests all throughout the month of October and saving her best
race for the class championship where she ran the 3.1 mile course in 24
minutes 42 seconds good enough for 49th place out of over 100.

Athlete of the Month: September

Dominic Pirri: Cross Country

Congratulations toDominic Pirri for being named Fatima High School Athlete of the month for September.

Dominic Pirri is the boy’s cross-country captain. As a senior captain Dominic has done nothing but lead by example. With cross-country being the new team to the athletic program, Dominic has become the face of the boy’s program. Dominic has been the team’s fastest runner all season, nearly a minute a head of the rest of the team. As the coach of the cross-country team, I give Dominic a lot of credit for his hard work and determination. Dominic being a soccer player has had to go through the tough transition to become a distance runner. Anyone who has ever run before can tell you it is not easy to get out and run a 3.1-mile race. Dominic has made it through the season with no complaints, does everything that is asked of him, and does it very well. The rest of the team looks up to him and tries to chase him, therefore making the rest of the team better. Dominic trains everyday with the rest of the team; he also has gone above and beyond by running in local road races on occasion when it fits into the training schedule.
