FATIMA encourages Community Leadership!
Alan Shawn Feinstein visited Our Lady of Fatima High School on November 19th. He congratulated the student body for collecting food items during the October Food Drive. Mr. Feinstein donated a dollar for every food item collected. The food was delivered to the Rhode Island Food Bank.

On Saturday, November 21st, Fatima students from the marine biology and
ecology class attended the "open house" at the new marine hatchery at Roger Williams University. Students had a tour of the algae production room learning the various strains used in the shellfish hatchery.
Following a tour of the shellfish hatchery, students enjoyed chowder and cider before touring the ornamental fish labs. Students ended the day helping university professors and staff in releasing 100,000 juvenile oysters into Town Pond in Portsmouth.

Fatima students work with Roger Williams University implementing an Oyster Gardening for Restoration and Education (OGRE) program in order to recreate oyster reefs throughout the Bay. This will bring promise of new life, biodiversity and productivity for the entire Narragansett Bay ecosystem. Read the article in the Narragansett Bay Journal.

Jordan Schwartz recently published his first article for BrickJournal. The article was about the Old Wild West and how to build a realistic stagecoach with LEGO® bricks to represent the time period. BrickJournal is an online publication for LEGO® enthusiasts. Jordan’s Passion for LEGO® began when he was a curious toddler who followed his older brother’s interest. As Jordan’s interest with LEGO® grew he become recognized as the most prolific builder within the online LEGO® community. He has won several contests, donated novel creations for charity, and was interviewed on LAML Radio (an unofficial LEGO® p odcast - episode #43), interviewed for a brief spot on the official LEGO Club® website and interviewed for a documentary to be released early 2010. Jordan intends to continue his endeavor with LEGO®, and hopes to eventually work for the company creating fun products for enthusiasts of the brick! HERITAGE
FATIMA is a private, Catholic, co-educational, junior-senior college-preparatory school, directed by the Sisters of Saint Dorothy and founded, in the spirit of Saint Paula Frassinetti, in 1965.
St. Paula Frassinetti, the foundress of the Sisters of Saint Dorothy, received a charism of service within the Church, enabling her to promote the integral growth of the person through Gospel values, according to the spirit and style of Jesus.
The Sisters of Saint Dorothy, as followers of Paula, carry out this service through education in all its forms, with preference for youth and for those most in need.
The vitality and dynamism of Paula’s original spirit unites us – Religious and lay collaborators – in a common mission of evangelization that is enriched by the personal gifts of each individual.
Paula’s pedagogy and style of service is “by way of the heart and of love”, creating a family environment which fosters personal growth. In this environment, one feels accepted, loved, self-confident and energized.
In our dealings with our students, the following characteristics give evidence of our having imbibed the spirit of simplicity with which St. Paula permeated all her relationships:
§ Goodness and gentleness in words and behavior
§ Patience, serenity and self-control
§ Moderation, especially when reprimanding or punishing
§ Firmness, consistency and stability
§ Respect, avoiding all offensive or sarcastic expressions
§ Impartiality, fairness and gratuitousness
§ Openness to communication and encouragement
§ Awareness of the need to set a good example
Having absorbed the teachings of the Gospel and allowed them to transform us into loving and caring persons, we work with great dedication to promote justice and fraternity, so that the world may be transformed into the family of God, and the values of the Gospel become the norm of life.
FATIMA demonstrates the belief that the truly educating community acts as the agent of change and is the key to the discovery, liberation, and constant revitalization of each person.
As members of this Christian community, FATIMA faculty and students encourage their own and each other’s spiritual awareness, intellectual strength, and development of a social consciousness that leads to a commitment to peace, justice, and personal responsibility.
In a spirit of simplicity enhanced by sincerity, warmth, dedication, and generosity, FATIMA faculty and students develop, according to his/her gifts, a genuine integration of personal individuality and communal responsibility. Each person channels his/her energies toward various endeavors that contribute to an evangelized society.
It is with a lively spirit of hope that the students and faculty in this type of academic atmosphere will appreciate and learn from the past, as they live the present with a view toward creating a dynamic and faith-filled future. |

Congratulations to Nick Jean-Gilles for scoring over 1,000 points in his Fatima High School basketball career.
Nick joins a small group of elite basketball players who have achieved this tremendous accomplishment. This shows that hard work and dedication pays off in the end. Without Nick’s dedication and extremely hard work ethic this would not have been possible. Nick is a young man with an endless amount of talent and no one deserves this honor more.
